Key Responsibilities and Engineering Focus

In this role, you will lead complex transformational solutions and integrations from end to end across various GBME projects. This involves producing actionable specifications, writing production-quality code, and overseeing production implementations. You will advocate for professional-level solutions, uphold high code quality standards, and promote modern engineering practices. Responsibilities also include independently developing, testing, and deploying intricate custom components using vendor APIs in Java or related technologies. You will design comprehensive test sets, automating where possible, and enhance testing tools as needed. A core aspect of this position is to design, deliver, and continuously enhance new and current solutions and applications, always committed to writing the most efficient and scalable code possible. Collaborating with the Architecture team on the design and integration of scalable solutions is crucial, as is improving the end-user experience by addressing complex ad hoc queries. This position requires proven experience in mentoring and guiding other developers, along with effectively communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences, and coaching end users when necessary.

Required Skills and Experience

To succeed in this Lead Software Engineer position, candidates must possess at least eight years of experience in enterprise application development using modern programming languages such as Java, Python, or .NET/C#. This includes extensive experience using Linux or Unix, coupled with related scripting knowledge. A strong background of over eight years with SQL and other query languages, alongside database design expertise, is essential. Furthermore, candidates should have at least four years of experience with various data technologies and databases, preferably including Postgres, MSSQL, Oracle DB, Apache NiFi, Apache Kafka, or Apache ElasticSearch, and be comfortable working with large datasets. Experience with front-end technologies like React, Angular, or JavaScript is required, as is familiarity with automation/scheduling technologies such as CRON, Tidal, or Airflow. Proficiency with DevOps tools including GIT, Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes is also necessary. A solid working knowledge of programming design patterns and best practices is expected. Excellent communication skills are vital for interacting with diverse audiences, including executive leadership and non-technical resources. The ideal candidate will be curious, consistently seeking process improvements, and capable of coordinating with numerous internal teams, including operations and application support groups. The ability to manage several concurrent assignments involving various technologies and environments is also highly valued. Preferred qualifications include experience working on data transformations, cloud computing (GCP/Azure) or Kubernetes (GKE) experience, knowledge of Capital Markets workflows and products, and experience in application/solutions architecture.
