The Internal Audit Analyst will apply a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes. This involves performing the full audit lifecycle, from planning to follow-up, across various Canadian Natural business areas, including operational, financial, compliance, and IT/cybersecurity processes. The objective is to deliver actionable recommendations that enhance organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Working closely with management, the Internal Audit team provides independent assurance that key risks are appropriately identified, managed, and mitigated, ensuring the company's continued success in the natural resources sector. This position offers broad exposure across Canadian Natural’s diverse business, encompassing Corporate, Oil Sands Mining, Conventional, Thermal, and Offshore operations.
Key Responsibilities and Qualifications
The Internal Audit Analyst will be responsible for planning and executing comprehensive risk-based audits, covering all stages from initial planning to follow-up. A key aspect of this role involves developing and contributing to robust risk assessments by thoroughly understanding various business processes, identifying critical risks, and designing appropriately scaled audit programmes. The analyst will perform detailed analysis of assigned processes to ascertain business objectives, pinpoint key risks, and evaluate the effectiveness of associated controls. This includes conducting process walk-throughs, designing and executing specific audit testing procedures, and meticulously documenting all audit work in adherence to established internal audit methodology. Furthermore, the role requires preparing clear, concise audit reports that offer practical, value-added recommendations, and subsequently monitoring and following up on agreed management actions to ensure successful implementation. Candidates for this vital position should possess a bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline, coupled with a professional designation in Auditing (CIA), Accounting (CPA), or Engineering (P.Eng.), or demonstrate a strong willingness to pursue a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Internal Audit Practitioner (IAP) designation.
