As an Intermediate Bodily Injury/Casualty Representative at Definity, you will report to the Leader, National Casualty and Bodily Injury Claims, taking on progressively challenging claims handling responsibilities. Your primary accountability will involve the thorough investigation, skilled negotiation, and effective settlement of intermediate third-party bodily injury claims. This role demands a proactive approach, requiring you to continually develop your expertise and support the growth of others within the team environment. You will actively engage all relevant stakeholders, including underwriting and senior leadership, to ensure the effective management of each claim. Responsibilities extend to confirming policy coverages, meticulously investigating claims to determine liability and quantum, and maintaining detailed file records. Furthermore, you will participate in mediations, pre-trials, and various settlement initiatives, often settling claims directly with Plaintiff’s Counsel and providing instruction to Defence Counsel. Your ability to manage a complex portfolio of automobile bodily injury or accident benefit claims, or even automobile property damage claims of increasing complexity, will be highly valued. To excel in this role, candidates must bring a robust set of qualifications and practical experience. A university degree, a college diploma, or the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is required, demonstrating a foundational understanding of insurance principles. Crucially, a minimum of three years of claims handling experience is essential, with a strong preference for automobile adjusting experience, particularly involving bodily injury claims. You must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear and effective interactions with customers, co-workers, and vendors in a professional, friendly, and courteous manner. The ability to perform well in a busy operation and remain calm under pressure is vital for managing complex casualty claims. Furthermore, you should exhibit strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to work independently while also being a collaborative team player adaptable to a changing environment. Proficiency in MS Office and strong overall computer skills are expected. Bilingualism in English and French, or other languages, is considered a valuable asset, as is licensure in multiple provinces, enhancing your versatility in the Canadian insurance landscape.
