Key Duties
As a Foreperson Facilities with the City of Toronto, you will play a critical role in overseeing the maintenance and custodial operations across several key facilities. This full-time position involves directing staff, coordinating with contractors, and ensuring all work meets the City's high standards for safety and efficiency. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operational success of building services, including managing equipment and supplies.
- Plan, direct, schedule, and coordinate custodial and facilities maintenance staff, tradespersons, and contractors.
- Organize and assign employees to perform cleaning and maintenance of City facilities and/or leased property.
- Patrol and inspect facility conditions and work progress to ensure security and timely completion.
- Ensure all work complies with legislative regulations, including WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Respond to client inquiries and requests.
- Inspect equipment and inventory on a scheduled basis.
- Provide timely delivery of services.
- Prepare and submit daily timesheets and attendance records.
- Enforce appropriate bylaws, regulations, and applicable legislation.
- Prepare material requisition forms for orders of cleaning supplies and other operational equipment, contacting suppliers as required.
- Maintain stock of cleaning supplies and necessary equipment.
- Train staff on operational requirements and the safe operation of equipment.
- Collaborate with tenants, users, police, fire officials, security, and contractors to maintain building/facility safety and security.
- Monitor and evaluate the work of outside contractors and in-house tradespeople.
- Monitor the condition and operation of buildings/facilities and report any defects for repairs.
- Perform all readings for heating plants, including chemical, temperature, and pressure readings, maintaining accurate records.
- Set up, move, and take down furniture and chairs for functions.
- Assist in budget preparations and monitor expenses to meet approved budgets.
- Prepare requisition forms for Capital work.
- Monitor HVAC systems and respond to problems.
- Monitor refrigeration equipment.
- Complete and maintain records and log books.
Qualifications for Success

- Considerable demonstrated experience in directing unionized staff and trades/contractors.
- Experience in custodial or caretaking work with a thorough understanding of the equipment and materials used in the custodial/caretaking profession.
- Experience in implementing all health and safety procedures with particular emphasis in the custodial/caretaking profession.
- Experience with computer applications (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook).
- Considerable experience with large commercial HVAC systems.
- Experience with building automation systems (BAS).
- Experience with facility alarm system operations.
Additionally, successful applicants must possess:
- Possession of a valid Ontario Driver's Licence class "G" and ability to obtain and maintain City of Toronto Equipment Operator's Permit.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of staff and with the client/public.
- Ability to train and provide orientation to staff.
- Ability to promote a positive team working environment.
- Advanced knowledge of WHMIS, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the regulations that apply to this work.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, and on-call as scheduled.
- Knowledge of corporate geographical boundaries.
A Building environment certificate or equivalent is considered an asset. Please note that a Police Records Check and Police Security Clearance for Toronto Police Services locations are conditions of employment.
