About the role
The Saskatchewan Health Authority is actively seeking a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) to join our esteemed team at the Unity Health Centre in Unity, Saskatchewan. This vital part-time temporary role, with an expected end date of September 30, 2027, is integral to our commitment to public health. As a key member of the Ambulance - Land department, you will be responsible for responding to both emergency and non-emergency medical events, providing essential assessment, treatment, and transportation for ill or injured persons. Your practice will strictly adhere to the guidelines set forth by The Saskatchewan Ambulance Act and Regulations, Saskatchewan College of Paramedics (SCoP) Clinical Practice Protocols, The Paramedics Act and bylaws, and Saskatchewan Health Authority policies, procedures, and work standards. This position is crucial for maintaining the health and well-being of communities across Saskatchewan, ensuring timely and professional emergency medical services are always available.
Details
To excel in this challenging yet rewarding position, candidates must possess a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) diploma and hold a valid Class 4 driver's license. Further essential qualifications include an International Trauma Life Support Certificate (ITLS), current CPR certification, and a Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS). We are looking for individuals with strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and effective listening skills. A critical ability for this role is being physically able to perform the demanding duties of pre-hospital emergency care, including the ability to safely and consistently lift and load stretchers on a regular basis. Furthermore, the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to operate emergency vehicles safely and effectively, and to function effectively in high-stress and emergency situations. Decision-making through the application of knowledge and critical thinking is paramount, alongside familiarity with the SK Ministry of Health Ambulance Information System and basic computer skills. The ability to be resilient, exhibit situational awareness, and adapt to changing conditions are key competencies for success in this dynamic health environment. Conflict resolution skills are also required to effectively handle difficult issues.
This part-time temporary position offers 168 hours per 6-week rotation, with shifts covering days, nights, evenings, weekends, and standby. The scheduled hours of work may be adjusted when a statutory holiday is recognized during the rotation period.
