Responsibilities

As an Infection Control Practitioner, your key responsibilities will include providing essential infection, prevention, and control related services to safeguard community health. Your expertise will be vital in maintaining effective programs and offering expert consultation.

• Providing infection, prevention and control related services by maintaining an effective Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program.
• Delivering training and education related to infection prevention and control and infectious diseases.
• Consulting on matters related to infection prevention and control within the area and externally as an expert resource.
• Participating in quality improvement or research activities with the IPC team, departments, and groups within the area.
• Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement.

Who we're looking for

We are seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable professional to join our Infection Prevention and Control department. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in health sciences and a commitment to maintaining rigorous infection control standards. This role requires a proactive approach to disease prevention and the ability to manage field hours effectively.

• Degree in Nursing or a relevant Health Sciences Degree acceptable to the Employer.
• Infection Control Certificate (CIC).
• Valid Class 5 driver's license.
• Completion of an Infection Control Course.

Beyond formal qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of infectious diseases and the ability to apply epidemiologic principles. This role requires working independently while also collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team, often involving travel across Saskatchewan.

• Knowledge to identify, investigate, and control outbreaks of infectious diseases.
• Knowledge of infectious diseases.
• Knowledge of and ability to utilize principles of program development and teaching.
• Ability to work independently, effectively, and cooperatively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency in the operation of word processing, spreadsheet, and PowerPoint software.
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate components of infection control to staff and patients.
• Demonstrates effective leadership and management skills.
• Possesses knowledge of and has job related experience in health care.
• Knowledge in epidemiologic principles, statistics, and microbiology.
