Scotiabank is seeking a Director, Technical Enablement & Training in Toronto, Ontario. This role drives the delivery of CTO training and enablement initiatives to build Data, AI, and Cloud capabilities across ScotiaTech and the broader Enterprise. Key duties include defining technical enablement strategy, designing comprehensive technical training content, and managing program operations. Success requires intermediate to advanced hands-on experience in Cloud, Data, or AI engineering, coupled with a proven ability to design and deliver scalable technical learning experiences.
About the Role
As the Director, Technical Enablement & Training at Scotiabank, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical capabilities of the organisation. This position is accountable for defining the technical enablement strategy and plans that support critical Data, AI, and Cloud programs, ensuring that all learning initiatives align with Scotia standards and real business use cases. You will partner closely with the Technical Engineering team and external vendors to design robust technical training content, including labs, playbooks, reference architectures, and job aids, all while ensuring alignment with best practices and enterprise security requirements. Your leadership will be crucial in gathering ongoing requirements to ensure that training aligns with evolving business priorities, technical needs, and adoption goals across various CIO teams.
This role is central to fostering a culture of continuous learning and development within Scotiabank. You will be responsible for the continuous curriculum iteration for Cloud, Data, and AI, as well as the design and sustainment of any necessary sandbox environments. This involves localising all learning content to Scotiabank’s identified learning platforms and coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders to align training with policies, roadmaps, and readiness plans. The focus is on delivering practical, outcome-driven technical learning that directly addresses real-world business problems and connects platform capabilities with business outcomes to drive sustainable adoption and value.
Driving Technical Excellence and Learning
A key aspect of this position involves managing program operations, including delivery calendars, registration, attendance tracking, and reporting on learning and skill attainment metrics. You will provide clear progress updates, identify risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies, and support program communication and rollout planning across various regions and teams. Furthermore, you will support hands-on workshops and drop-in clinics for engineers, developers, architects, and infrastructure teams, applying adult learning principles and the 70-20-10 model to maximise practical skill development through guided labs, peer learning, and office hours.
This role also encompasses conducting train-the-trainer refresher sessions for continuous capacity scaling across teams and regions, ensuring broad reach and impact of technical training. You will manage day-to-day lab operations, including sandbox provisioning, quotas, budgets, access, and environment cleanup, while implementing guardrails and cost controls. Maintaining images, reference architectures, and pre-configured templates, alongside monitoring environment health and coordinating with platform teams, ensures services remain current, stable, and compliant. Continuous improvement and updating of training curriculum and content are essential to align with sandbox updates and evolving business requirements.
Skills for Success and an Inclusive Culture
To succeed in this Director role, candidates should possess intermediate to advanced hands-on experience in Cloud, Data, and/or AI engineering or development. A proven ability to design and deliver impactful technical learning experiences, including workshops, labs, and bootcamps, is essential, along with the skill to clearly explain complex concepts to diverse audiences. Experience delivering enablement programs at scale, utilising models like cohorts and train-the-trainer, is highly valued. Strong stakeholder management, written and verbal communication, and documentation skills are critical, as is the ability to work cross-functionally, influence without authority, and build a community of practice. Relevant Cloud, Data, and/or AI certifications are required, and adult education or facilitation certification, along with Spanish proficiency, are considered assets.
