The Building Worker is responsible for a variety of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks in and around City of Vancouver facilities. This is an auxiliary/casual employment opportunity. Building Workers must be able to work morning, afternoons, evenings, overnights and on weekends at various locations throughout the City. A shift differential will apply when applicable. The salary for this position ranges from $28.83 to $33.75 per hour.
General cleaning duties are a core part of this role. Tasks include burnishing, stripping, and waxing floors, as well as carpet cleaning. You will be responsible for removing recycling and waste, and replenishing supplies. Window cleaning, using a tucker pole, is also required. Minor repairs and maintenance, alongside painting and other related duties, will be assigned.
Candidates should have completed a recognized certification program in building services work, along with some related experience. You will need experience performing a variety of routine manual tasks in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of buildings. Experience operating and using janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies is also essential. A working knowledge of materials, methods, safety practices, and simple equipment used in janitorial and maintenance work is required. The ability to arrange an effective work schedule under minimum direct instruction is important. Good health and sufficient strength to perform manual tasks are necessary. Applicants must possess a current and valid BC Driver’s Licence and a satisfactory driving record. A Police Record Check or an Enhanced Police Record Check is a requirement for this position, with clearance requiring the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to the role.
