As an Associate Financial Advisor for CIBC in Toronto, ON, you will join the Personal and Business Banking team. This role involves understanding the financial needs of personal and small business clients and recommending personalized solutions. Key duties include managing mortgage client portfolios and providing comprehensive retail banking offers. Top requirements include 2-3 years of financial advice experience and current Mutual Funds License accreditation.

About the Associate Financial Advisor Role at CIBC

CIBC is building a relationship-oriented bank, seeking passionate professionals dedicated to doing what is right for their clients. As an Associate Financial Advisor, you will make a meaningful difference in clients' lives within a fast-paced banking centre environment in Toronto. Your primary focus will be to form a deep understanding of your personal and small business clients’ financial needs, enabling you to recommend simple, personalized solutions that help them achieve their financial goals. You will also manage a portfolio of mortgage clients, aiming to deepen the overall client relationship. This role requires flexibility to work banking centre hours, including evenings and weekends, and potentially at multiple CIBC banking centres within a reasonable travel distance to best serve our clients.

A core aspect of this position involves strong client engagement. You will meet with clients to understand their personal and business priorities, advise them on suitable financial solutions, and help them create a forward-looking financial plan. Ensuring all clients’ investment, financial, and credit-related needs are met is crucial, whether by providing a comprehensive retail banking offer directly or by making a formal introduction to appropriate Imperial Service and Business Banking colleagues. Relationship building is key; you will engage in marketing and outreach activities to show clients you value them and their communities, growing your network and deepening existing connections. Furthermore, you will contribute to business development by networking with clients’ families and friends to uncover new opportunities and refer to appropriate partners, actively calling existing and potential clients to identify future growth. Leveraging technology is also vital; you will become a technology expert, introducing clients to CIBC’s mobile banking applications to help them better manage their banking needs.

What CIBC Looks For in a Financial Advisor

CIBC seeks individuals who consistently put clients first, engaging with purpose to find the right solutions and going the extra mile because it is the right thing to do. Ideal candidates are goal-oriented, motivated by accomplishing their objectives and delivering their best to make a difference in the financial lives of clients. Attention to detail is paramount; you notice things others might miss, using critical thinking skills to inform your decision-making. A passion for people is essential, as you find meaning in relationships and connect with others through respect and authenticity, surrounding yourself with a diverse network of partners. Furthermore, a love for learning and a strong sense of curiosity are highly valued, indicating a desire to continuously grow your knowledge within the banking and financial sector.

To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate 2 to 3 years of experience in providing financial advice to clients and achieving sales results through advice-based conversations. You must also be a certified professional, holding current accreditation and good standing in a Mutual Funds License (either the Canadian Securities Course or Investment Funds in Canada) and meet eligibility requirements for CIRO-MFD licensing. While not mandatory, current accreditation and good standing in CFSA (Certificate of Financial Services Advice) is considered a valuable asset. CIBC values team members who bring their real selves to work and live by the core values of trust, teamwork, and accountability, ensuring every client interaction reflects these principles.
