The University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking a Qualitative Research Analyst for its Digital Emergency Medicine program within the Department of Emergency Medicine, Faculty of Medicine. This vital role contributes to research on digital technologies improving healthcare delivery and digital health literacy. The position is based at the UBC Hospital Site in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The compensation range for this role is $5,365.42 to $7,709.92 CAD monthly. Reporting to the Manager, Program Administration and Technology, this role involves close collaboration with Research Coordinators, Project Coordinators, and various internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
The Qualitative Research Analyst oversees and participates in qualitative data collection, analysis, and write-up activities. This includes preparing ethics reviews, conducting surveys, interviews, and focus groups, and contributing to the analysis and dissemination of findings.
Responsibilities also involve managing procedural and administrative aspects of projects, including monitoring budgets for assigned program components. The analyst serves as a primary contact for project participants and partners, contributing to project plan development and critical path implementation.
This role develops and implements systems for data administration and analysis, with a particular focus on qualitative methods. The analyst co-develops and drafts publications, conference presentations, and other project dissemination activities, including social media outreach. They liaise with principal investigators, co-investigators, and various committees, providing progress reports and contributing to project promotions and knowledge sharing.
Further duties include drafting sections of grant applications, collaborating on funding proposals and progress reports, and managing participant recruitment and registration for studies and events as needed. The incumbent also procures and negotiates service contracts and invoices when required.
Qualifications and Skills
Candidates must possess an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline along with a minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A willingness to respect diverse perspectives and a commitment to enhancing awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion are essential.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the health sciences or education sectors. Experience with, or an aptitude for, new and emerging technologies such as virtual communities and web conferencing is considered an asset.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to interact calmly and courteously with diverse individuals, and strong analytical capabilities. They must effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities, work under pressure to meet deadlines without compromising quality, and operate effectively both independently and within a team environment.
Key skills include initiative, sound judgment, and demonstrated analytical, written, and presentation skills for preparing strategic plans and reports. Expertise in qualitative research and evaluation, effective negotiation, and consultation skills are also required. The ability to develop and maintain strategic alliances and liaise effectively with stakeholders and clients is crucial. Occasional work on weekends or outside regular hours may be necessary to meet operational or research deliverables.
