About the Opportunity

Trillium Health Partners is seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant to join their Neuro/MSK program at the Mississauga Hospital. This part-time position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to one of Canada's largest community-based teaching hospitals, serving the diverse populations of Mississauga and surrounding communities. The Neuro/MSK program is home to a comprehensive multidisciplinary team that provides exceptional, patient-centred care to patients diagnosed with complex neurological conditions such as brain tumours, subdural hematoma, and those undergoing spinal surgery. As a key member of the healthcare team, the Physician Assistant will work closely with neurosurgeons, playing a crucial role in the health and well-being of patients within the 4J Neurosurgery, 3J Neurosurgery Special Care Unit, and 4J Surgical Spine units. These units are regional centres for neurosurgery, offering high observation and acute care for patients pre- and post-operatively. This role is integral to delivering high-quality care at a leading hospital in Mississauga.

Key Responsibilities and Collaborative Care

The Physician Assistant will undertake a range of critical responsibilities to support the neurosurgical services at Mississauga Hospital. This includes performing comprehensive and problem-focused histories, physical examinations, and patient screening, along with ordering appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies. A significant aspect of this physician assistant role involves conducting daily hospital rounds, evaluating post-operative patients, and facilitating discharge planning, ensuring seamless transitions for patients to appropriate physician or agency care. The assistant will also manage routine follow-up visits, patient phone calls, and prescription refills. After demonstrating competency through formal and informal education, the physician assistant may prescribe/order specific medications, excluding narcotics, as delegated by the supervising physician.
