Key responsibilities include ensuring program compliance and continuous improvement. Candidates should possess experience in pension and benefit program administration and strong analytical capabilities.

About the Opportunity at Metrolinx

Metrolinx, an agency of the Government of Ontario, is dedicated to connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe through its extensive transit network, including GO Transit and UP Express. The Total Rewards team at Metrolinx is actively seeking a dedicated Pension & Benefits Analyst to play a crucial role in enhancing and maintaining the organisation's comprehensive pension and benefits programs. This full-time, long-term contract for 18 months offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a vital public service.

The successful candidate will provide essential analytical and subject matter expertise, offering robust support for various pension and benefits programs, policies, and projects. A key aspect of this role involves serving as a primary contact for employee inquiries, ensuring clear and accurate communication regarding their pension and benefits. The administration of Metrolinx's registered pension plans and related programs is central, requiring strict adherence to legislative requirements, plan rules, and administrative guidelines to ensure full compliance. Furthermore, the role involves meticulous review of pension calculations, payment authorisations, and other administration activities to guarantee accuracy and compliance. This position is integral to ensuring that Metrolinx's employee support systems are robust, competitive, and fully compliant with Canadian regulations.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications

As a Pension & Benefits Analyst, you will be instrumental in the meticulous validation, authorisation, and processing of benefits invoices and vendor payments. This ensures accuracy, appropriate approvals, budget alignment, and strict compliance with contractual obligations. Your support will extend to the administration of critical health, dental, life, disability, and retirement programs, where you will identify opportunities for program enhancements and operational improvements to better serve Metrolinx's employees. The role demands strong analytical skills to conduct data analysis, perform audits, and prepare comprehensive reports that inform decision-making, monitor compliance, and assess program effectiveness.

Managing the Total Rewards and Compensation shared inbox is also a key duty, requiring timely responses to employee inquiries and efficient direction of requests. Maintaining up-to-date pension and benefits documentation, compliance calendars, policies, and administrative practices is essential. You will also contribute to the review and development of new pension and benefits programs, basing recommendations on current legislation, market trends, and employee needs. Delivering pension and benefits education through various communication channels, including presentations and individual consultations, is a vital component of the employee support provided. Collaboration with HR Business Partners, Finance, Audit, and external vendors is crucial for effective program delivery and strong vendor performance.

Candidates should possess a degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, coupled with demonstrated experience in administering pension and benefit programs, ideally within a large, complex, unionised organisation. Knowledge of Canadian pension and benefits legislation, governance, and industry practices, including pension and tax regulations, is paramount for ensuring compliance. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and HR systems is also required to effectively manage the administration and analysis tasks.
