The Opportunity
Metrolinx is dedicated to connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe, operating vital services like GO Transit and UP Express, alongside the PRESTO fare payment system. As part of our commitment to building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion and major subway system developments, we are seeking an experienced Manager, GO Analysis. This pivotal role within our GO Transit Infrastructure and Service Development team in Planning will lead critical ridership, benefit, revenue, and impact analysis for GO Transit. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management and professional development of a team of technical professionals. This involves ensuring the quality and relevance of analytic deliverables that respond to internal client requests. Your work will directly support the planning and appraisal of major investment decisions by providing frameworks, tools, and analytics to forecast ridership and impacts over the medium to long-term (5-20+ years).
Skills and Experience
To excel in this Manager, GO Analysis role at Metrolinx, candidates should possess a strong foundation in quantitative analysis and leadership, coupled with a passion for public transit development.
- University degree in economics, planning, engineering, or a related discipline, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Graduate degree and/or professional experience with a strong emphasis on quantitative analysis, ridership forecasting, economic cost-benefit, financial analysis and other transportation analytics methods and application would be an asset.
- Minimum 8 years of related experience in progressive leadership roles managing planning tools, analysis, standards and research that drive investment decision-making across an organization.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and lead staff and project teams.
- Knowledge of principles, theories, concepts and practices of economic cost-benefit analysis, financial analysis, and ridership forecasting.
- Knowledge of principles, theories, concepts and practices of transportation planning, including transit planning, public policy, urban planning, and transport economics.
- Problem-solving skills to resolve conflicting priorities and to facilitate collaborative approaches to address analytical requests in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to manage internal and external relationships, deliver presentations, and lead report writing activities.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
As the Manager, GO Analysis, your daily responsibilities will involve a blend of strategic leadership, technical oversight, and collaborative engagement to advance Metrolinx's transit planning objectives.
- Provides senior leadership and expertise in the development of robust ridership, benefit, revenue, and impact analysis to inform Metrolinx project planning and investment decision making.
- Manages the integration of long-term ridership, economic, and financial impact analysis with on-the-ground data to ensure the quality and continuous improvement of analytic deliverables.
- Promotes the integration of analysis best practices to accelerate and facilitate the adoption of these analysis practices in the team’s work products.
- Determines scope of analysis projects, deliverables and prioritizes competing requests. Evaluates requirements to ensure data and other resources are available and adaptable to meet client needs.
- Builds strong working relationships with counterparts in business units across the organization, as well as industry peers, government officials, academia, and other external stakeholders, to understand and communicate research and analytical requirements, and advance the state of analysis.
- Creates a culture of innovation by leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of analytical frameworks, standards and planning tools.
