Key responsibilities for this role involve the safe and efficient movement of merchandise throughout the store. You will be required to stock items onto shelves, pack-out and pack-down products as directed, and merchandise new arrivals or promotions effectively. A significant part of this position involves maintaining and organizing overheads, ensuring all products are stored safely and are easily retrievable. Many Freight Team Associates operate essential equipment such as reach trucks, forklifts, and order picker machines to bring merchandise down from overheads or move freight from designated staging areas. Adherence to all safety and loss prevention policies is paramount, ensuring a secure environment for both associates and customers. Furthermore, you will be required to pick and carefully pack customer orders, accurately labelling and placing them into specified holding areas to prevent damage.
While primarily an overnight role, Freight Team Associates are occasionally required to provide customer service, especially when customers need assistance during your shift. This involves engaging with customers, understanding their project needs, and guiding them to the correct solutions, following The Home Depot’s ‘Get Model’ of customer service. Effective communication with other freight team members is also essential to ensure all product is stocked in the proper area and that the sales floor remains clean and shoppable. Your ability to maintain aisle cleanliness and ensure merchandise accessibility directly contributes to a positive customer experience, even during non-peak hours.
Candidates for the Overnight Freight Associate position should possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, along with a customer-focused mindset. While not strictly required, 1 to 2 years of retail or distribution experience is considered an asset, as is knowledge of operating reach trucks, forklifts, and order picker machines. This position involves physical activities such as bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing ladders up to 12-16 feet to stock or obtain merchandise. The working environment is a warehouse setting that can be dusty and noisy, with occasional gas fumes from passing forklifts and temperature changes due to frequently open doors.
