As a Part-Time Temporary Order Picker at Home Depot in Sydney, you will play a crucial role in ensuring customers receive their purchases accurately and efficiently. This position involves obtaining detailed pick lists and prioritizing them to effectively fill each order. You will be responsible for gathering a variety of merchandise from throughout the store, ensuring all products are accounted for and prepared according to specific order requirements. A significant part of this role involves carefully packing orders to prevent damage during transit and accurately labelling them for their designated holding areas. These orders are then staged until they are ready to be loaded onto delivery trucks or picked up by customers. Furthermore, as part of the Service Desk team, Order Picker associates are expected to handle basic customer order-related transactions, including point-of-sale (POS) sales and returns. This requires comfort with making and receiving customer phone calls and the ability to interpret customer order notes within the system, ensuring every customer interaction is positive and productive.
Ensuring customer satisfaction is at the core of the Order Picker role. This involves adhering to Home Depot’s GET model of customer service – Greeting, Engaging, and Thanking every customer. You will be instrumental in gathering the correct product mix to fill all orders promptly, utilizing the Order Fulfilment Application to streamline the process. Responsibilities also extend to safely loading delivery vehicles and assisting with curbside customer orders, always complying with required safety regulations. Creating adequate space for delivery orders until they are moved out of the store is also a key task, alongside meticulously packing and labelling orders to withstand the rigours of delivery, protecting the products from damage.
Safety and compliance are non-negotiable aspects of this position. Order Pickers must strictly follow all Safety and Loss Prevention policies and procedures. This includes safely moving freight from designated staging areas to overheads, or bringing merchandise down using appropriate equipment. The role requires significant physical activity, including walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, and pulling items. Occasionally, you will need to lift and move heavy and bulky items without assistance and climb ladders, up to 12-16 feet, to obtain or stock merchandise within the store. Candidates for the Order Picker position should possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. While not strictly required, 1 to 2 years of retail or distribution experience is considered a valuable asset, providing a foundational understanding of inventory management and customer service.
