The University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking a Learning & Curriculum Manager for the Creative Learning portfolio within its Division of Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD). This vital role supports physicians and other health professionals across British Columbia by developing innovative education programmes and leading complex projects focused on practice improvement and healthcare delivery. The incumbent will contribute to a team dedicated to designing interactive, media-rich learning experiences, impacting both national and international audiences.
Situated within the Faculty of Medicine, UBC CPD is a unique unit focused on cost recovery, serving a diverse audience of practicing health professionals. The role involves collaboration with provincial and national stakeholder organisations, including the BC Ministry of Health and Doctors of BC, in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
This position develops and leads the design and implementation of educational programming initiatives from initiation to closure, working collaboratively with Medical Directors and senior leadership to establish project goals. The manager identifies opportunities for and oversees user experience research and needs assessment activities to inform programme design and learning management system updates. They provide internal and external consultation on best practices for education planning, design, development, and delivery.
Key duties include building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, developing detailed project plans, and managing project scope, schedule, and risks. The role involves overseeing and optimising the use of the UBC CPD Moodle Learning Management System and related digital tools for effective online learning delivery. The manager is also responsible for developing and analysing operating budgets, creating funding proposals for new projects, and designing and implementing evaluation strategies.
The incumbent will lead the development of learning outcomes, identify essential educational content, and propose learning activities, leveraging expertise in instructional design to prepare materials for various formats. They will also oversee communication strategies and marketing campaigns for assigned projects, ensuring materials are tailored to learners. This role includes supervising and providing direction to project staff, ensuring efficient delivery of educational programmes and managing staff performance.
What You'll Bring
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Education and a minimum of six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, along with a willingness to respect diverse perspectives, is essential. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree in Educational Technology, Biomedical Communications, or a relevant discipline.
Demonstrated experience in educational programming, adult learning, and effective instructional design is required, alongside expertise in educational technologies, learning management systems, and digital collaboration tools. The ideal candidate will have the ability to leverage technology and data to enhance learning design and drive innovation. Excellent project management, technical, and communication skills are vital, with experience in grant or proposal writing considered an asset.
The role requires the capacity for innovation, research, and effective project management, including the ability to manage complex budgets and timelines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are crucial, as is the ability to effectively recruit, supervise, and motivate employees. Experience in the Continuing Professional Development domain, particularly within healthcare delivery and knowledge of the BC medical system, is highly valued.
