Under the supervision of the Supervisor X, this permanent full-time position focuses on maintaining and repairing a variety of vehicles and equipment for the City of Saskatoon. This role specifically covers a weekend shift.
The successful candidate will review work orders, carrying out repairs and preventative maintenance on various vehicles and equipment. This includes inspecting vehicles and equipment, performing road tests when necessary, and testing systems and components to diagnose specific problems. You will adjust, repair, and replace parts and components using hand tools and specialized equipment, and test repaired systems to manufacturer's performance specifications. The role also involves performing preventative maintenance and safety inspections, such as SGI inspections, to meet regulatory requirements.
You will diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, along with associated components. Minor fabrication and welding duties may be required. Completing necessary documentation, such as inspection forms and service reports, is also part of the role. You will support and promote the health and safety of employees and the general public, adhering to the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures. Maintaining and monitoring programs affecting public and employee health and safety is also a responsibility.
Applicants must have a Grade 12 education and possess a valid provincial or inter-provincial Journeyperson designation in Automotive, Truck and Transport, or Heavy Duty mechanics. A recognized Apprenticeship Certificate is preferred. Five years of Journeyperson experience with vehicles, large equipment, and heavy-duty truck repairs is required. Candidates must hold a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A Driver's Licence and provide a current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record. Possession of a WHMIS training certificate is an asset; training will be provided upon hire.
Key knowledge areas include the operation and use of current test equipment, occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade, and electronic engines, transmissions, hydraulics, air/hydraulic brakes, and other on-board vehicle systems. Required skills include demonstrated ability to regularly and consistently attend work, follow applicable procedures and policies, work with minimal supervision individually or as a team, comprehend technical service manuals and bulletins, process and complete all required forms and reports, and perform welding and fabrication. Skill in computer operation is also necessary.
This full-time permanent position involves 40 weekly hours on a weekend shift. The salary range for this role is $84,064.80 to $99,454.08 CAD per annum, based on 2026 rates.
