As a Daytime Receiving Associate, your responsibilities will focus heavily on the efficient management of incoming merchandise and freight. This critical role requires you to unload various types of inbound freight from carriers, meticulously checking the quantity and quality of all received items. A key part of the process involves accurately entering information about incoming merchandise into our store systems, diligently using tools like the First Phone for Rough Goods Receipt (RGR) and Detail Goods Receipt (DGR). You will be instrumental in handling merchandise, from identifying and reading vendor packing slips and carrier shipping documents to comparing them with purchase orders to ensure complete accuracy. The position requires associates to be licensed to use powered lift equipment, such as electric pallet jacks, reach trucks, order pullers, and forklifts, which are essential for moving freight from the receiving area to designated staging zones and for stocking merchandise onto shelves. Maintaining a clean and organised receiving area, including disposing of trash and managing overheads, is also a vital daily task, ensuring safety and efficiency for all associates.
Success in this Receiving Associate role requires a high level of commitment, exceptional attention to detail, and a strong ability to learn and adhere to established procedures. Beyond the core receiving duties, this position also involves direct interaction with customers, demonstrating Home Depot's GET behaviours by approaching and greeting customers, asking open-ended questions, and expressing interest in their projects to determine their needs and guide them to the right solutions. Associates will utilise store systems and tools to identify product, article, and vendor information, alongside product location and store layout details, to provide the most efficient service. The work environment is dynamic, within a warehouse setting that may be dusty and noisy, with potential temperature changes and uneven walking surfaces due to heavy equipment movement. Physical requirements include frequent bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy items, as well as climbing ladders up to 12-16 feet to stock or obtain merchandise. A minimum of one year of receiving experience is required, with previous forklift experience considered a significant asset, equipping our associates with the skills necessary to handle diverse merchandise effectively.
