As a Financial Planner within Scotiabank's Scotia Financial Planning team, you will be instrumental in developing and deepening client relationships, primarily within the mass affluent market. This role emphasizes providing high-quality financial and investment advice and service, helping clients meet their unique goals through comprehensive financial planning. You will operate as a dedicated entrepreneur, leveraging external networks and centres of influence to build new and long-term business relationships. You will actively establish business development opportunities with prospects and existing clients within your assigned market area. This includes executing comprehensive business development plans, identifying additional business development opportunities, and facilitating the implementation of appropriate investment solutions or referrals to partners. A client-centric approach is paramount, involving proactive outbound communications to remain top-of-mind for future business. You will conduct complimentary needs analyses across various financial statements, including those from competitors, to provide well-rounded financial planning. Community involvement is also key, as you will participate actively in local professional and community events and associations to expand your network, identify opportunities for financial seminars, and build a strong market profile. Managing a small budget for independent marketing activities will support your efforts in growing your business.
To succeed in this financial role, candidates should possess at least three years of experience in financial planning and investment sales. Essential qualifications include being a mutual funds certified professional with current accreditation and good standing for MFDA licensing requirements, such as Investments Funds in Canada (IFC) or the Canadian Securities Course (CSC). Successful completion of a Personal Financial Planning (PFP®) designation and/or a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation is also required. Proven networking, client acquisition, and interpersonal skills are crucial, along with experience in building and maintaining Centres of Influence (COIs). The ideal candidate is goal-oriented, entrepreneurial, and capable of working independently as a self-motivated professional with minimal supervision, while also contributing effectively as part of a larger team.
