About the Role
This hybrid Enterprise Developer role at the University of Alberta, primarily based at Enterprise Square in Edmonton, involves a mix of remote and in-person work. Reporting to the Manager of Core Technology Services, the successful candidate will provide technical support for the analysis, design, development, and deployment of the University’s enterprise application solutions. This position is crucial for enhancing and maintaining modern Oracle Cloud Services and current PeopleSoft environments, including Campus Solutions, HCM, and Financials, ensuring reliable performance and integration across systems. As a technical member of the service delivery team, you will participate in programming and integration tasks, collaborating with IST staff, business units, and external vendors throughout the application lifecycle. This includes feature enablement, system upgrades, and operational support, with a focus on documenting all delivered solutions. A disciplined approach to problem-solving and a growing proficiency with modern enterprise architectures and toolsets are essential.
Key Responsibilities
You will participate in assessing business processes to translate functional requirements into effective technical designs and enterprise solutions. This role performs technical changes for projects, enhancements, and operational requests across the entire development lifecycle, encompassing analysis, design, coding, testing, and implementation. You will be responsible for modifying and developing application components, integrations, and reports within modern PeopleSoft and Oracle Cloud environments, adhering to efficient and maintainable programming standards. The position requires following established application and data development methodologies to ensure high-quality performance and system reliability. You will assist with production transitions and post-implementation reviews to verify that system changes perform according to technical design specifications. Additionally, you will provide technical expertise during maintenance cycles, system upgrades, and new feature enablement projects, offering support to functional staff and business units regarding enterprise application capabilities in collaboration with senior developers.
What You'll Bring
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience, such as a relevant two-year post-secondary technical diploma combined with a minimum of five years of directly related enterprise development experience, will also be considered. Candidates should possess three or more years of technical experience in the configuration, development, and support of large-scale enterprise suites. Demonstrated experience working with modern Oracle PeopleSoft applications like Campus Solutions, HCM, or Financials, and associated PeopleTools, is essential. Proficiency in multiple programming languages and modern integration concepts, including advanced SQL syntax for relational databases (Oracle or MS SQL Server), along with experience with SQR, Application Engine, and Security Administration, is expected. Hands-on experience with advanced PeopleTools (8.58+) features, such as PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) and Fluid User Interface, is also necessary. Familiarity with PeopleSoft Integration Broker, Web Services, and messaging technologies to support data exchange between systems, and completion of formal Oracle PeopleTools training or equivalent technical certification, are important. Proven analytical and systems thinking abilities to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a complex environment are critical. Excellent communication, both oral and written, interpersonal, and time management skills, coupled with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, are also required. Desired attributes include technical training or certifications in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Student Information Systems (SIS), proficiency in additional programming languages (e.g., C#, PHP), and experience working within a structured project environment using formal process management methodologies (e.g., ITIL, Agile). A demonstrated understanding of the impacts of technical change across diverse functional disciplines and a proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced IT environment are also valuable.
