As an Order Picker associate, your primary responsibility will be to manage and fulfil customer orders efficiently. You will meticulously obtain pick lists, prioritizing each order to ensure timely completion. This involves gathering a wide variety of merchandise from throughout the store, carefully packing products to prevent damage, and accurately labelling them for placement in designated holding areas until they are loaded onto delivery trucks. A key aspect of this role is maintaining exceptional customer satisfaction by following Home Depot’s GET model: Greeting, Engaging, and Thanking every customer. You will also handle basic customer order-related transactions at the Service Desk, including POS sales and returns, making and receiving customer phone calls, and interpreting order notes within the system. Ensuring safety and compliance is paramount; this includes adhering to all Loss Prevention policies, safely moving freight, and potentially operating equipment like reach trucks or order picker machines if certified. The work environment is a warehouse setting, which can be dusty and noisy, with occasional gas fumes from passing forklifts and temperature changes due to frequently open doors. The position requires physical stamina, involving walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and occasionally moving heavy or bulky items without assistance. The ability to climb ladders, up to 12-16 feet, to access or stock merchandise is also essential.
To be successful as an Order Picker at The Home Depot, candidates should possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. While not mandatory, 1 to 2 years of retail or distribution experience is considered a valuable asset, particularly given the focus on customer service and efficient store operations.
