As a dedicated Customer Service Representative within the Corporate Revenue Department, this position actively processes various applications and responds to enquiries from citizens across Saskatoon. You will be responsible for handling requests related to utility services, including transfers and disconnections, received at the counter, by telephone, and through correspondence. A significant part of the role involves addressing written, telephone, and in-person enquiries concerning property taxes, such as levy calculations, legal descriptions, and tax certificate processing. Furthermore, the successful candidate responds to customer enquiries and complaints regarding utility billing and related issues, such as the Equalized Payment Plan and direct debit. This role also processes business licence applications, collects associated fees, and issues licences in strict accordance with established City policies and procedures, ensuring all related enquiries are handled efficiently. The ability to manage diverse public interactions and accurately process automated transaction data is crucial for success in this dynamic environment, which also includes responding to complaints related to Traffic, Animal Control, and Noise Bylaws.
To excel in this Customer Service Representative position, candidates must possess specific qualifications and demonstrated abilities. Graduation from a business college or a recognized one-year post-secondary business-related program is required, alongside a typing speed of 45+ words per minute, which is essential for efficient data entry and communication. Applicants should have four years of progressively responsible customer service experience, primarily involving the direct resolution of complex external customer concerns and the accurate processing of automated transaction data. Key knowledge areas include office principles, business English, basic accounting procedures such as bank reconciliation and ledger balancing, and the ability to interpret various City bylaws and Provincial acts. The successful individual will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, deal courteously, tactfully, and effectively with customers, and research, analyse, and interpret information in accordance with established policies and procedures. This role demands an individual with the ability to solve problems independently and work effectively as a team member with minimal supervision, occasionally assisting with the training of new staff as required.
