About the Role
This role is a critical part of the Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta, reporting to the Manager, Teaching & Learning. It focuses on delivering an excellent learning experience for students. The Curriculum Coordinator collaborates with academic faculty members and programme staff to continuously enhance teaching and learning within the school, integrating research-based, pedagogically sound, and forward-thinking practices. This position is responsible for identifying, promoting, and implementing educational technologies, strategies, and approaches in areas such as assessment, instruction, blended learning, and evaluation. Working alongside instructional teams, this role manages and coordinates the foundational series of Business courses and other large courses as needed. It also provides an important governance function, participating in Faculty committees and coordinating the Business Council. This is a term position for one year plus one day, operating in a hybrid model with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.
Your Responsibilities
You will provide pedagogical consultation to academic faculty members, enhancing teaching practices on topics including instructional practices, assessment design, student engagement, accessibility, education technology, and blended learning. You will advise instructors on effectively integrating technology into their courses and teaching practices. This role involves researching, curating, designing, and promoting instructional resources for academic faculty members in both print and digital formats. You will work with a team of instructors to deliver the BUS series of courses, which provides students with foundational and essential knowledge and skills for individual and professional development. This includes advising on instructional methods and assessment design, managing course grading, implementing experiential learning activities, co-creating instructional materials, and recruiting, training, coordinating, and supervising Teaching Assistants. You will also conduct curriculum mapping and track key metrics to support the school's accreditation and continuous improvement efforts. Staying apprised of developments in post-secondary teaching and learning, you will lead the development of strategies for how the school can adapt and respond. Additionally, you will facilitate opportunities to showcase the school, its programmes, and excellent teaching and learning practices to potential students and partners.
What You'll Bring
Candidates should possess a post-secondary graduate degree (master's or doctorate) in a related field such as Business, Education, or Library and Information Studies, or an equivalent qualification. A minimum of two years of experience in instructional design, teaching and learning in higher education, Business education, training and development, or a related post-secondary environment is required. Essential knowledge includes best practices in higher education, new and emerging teaching and learning technologies, and their effective integration. Experience in course coordination, curriculum mapping, data management in a post-secondary programme, and integrating AI into the curriculum are preferred. Familiarity with university culture and policies is also an asset. Demonstrated supervisory experience is expected. You will need superior oral and written communication, exceptional organisational skills, and strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities, along with a commitment to client service and a positive, professional approach. Outstanding project management skills, including managing projects and groups within defined timeframes, are crucial. Strong analytical skills, adaptability, the ability to work with some ambiguity, and strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills are also required. Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Apps, and other relevant software is necessary.
