Sun Life is seeking a Bilingual Associate Group Underwriter to join our team in Montreal, Quebec. This is a hybrid role, offering flexibility to work both from the office and virtually. Reporting to the Sun Advantage Underwriting Manager, you will contribute to the Sun Advantage segment, which provides service to small and medium businesses with 3 to 49 lives, represented by brokers, MGAs, and TPAs.
In this role, you will be responsible for assessing and managing risk by analysing data related to requests from existing customers or new business opportunities. You will provide insights and creative solutions to help solve existing or new client problems as they arise. Key tasks include setting pricing for renewal in-force contracts and providing quotations for new business opportunities, all while meeting Sun Life’s quality and service standards and respecting deadlines. You will develop a strong understanding of the administrative, contractual, and legislative Group Benefits environment, as well as Sun Life’s products and services, underwriting guidelines, systems, tools, pricing methodologies, and market feedback. Partnering with the sales and service team will be essential to provide outstanding client services and achieve profitability objectives.
Bilingualism in French and English, both oral and written, is required for frequent interactions with colleagues and internal partners across Canada and worldwide. You should possess strong knowledge in Microsoft Suite, along with solid analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. A structured and systematic approach is essential for making unique contributions in various situations, in compliance with internal policies and directives. Attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure, and strong organisational skills are key. We are looking for a positive attitude, enthusiasm for a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment, excellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrated communication and negotiation abilities. A STEM-related degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Administration, Finance, or Accounting degree, or equivalent experience is necessary. As part of the interview process, you will complete math and Excel tests, and an English/French grammatical test is required for the Eastern Region.
