As a Bakery Utility Clerk, you will be responsible for ensuring customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to company policies, procedures, and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Bakery Supervisor or Bakery Manager, your main responsibilities include providing excellent customer service and maintaining positive customer relations by properly handling customer questions, comments, requests, and complaints. You will effectively work in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner. This role involves performing all aspects of the Bakery Utility function, including panning and operating bake-off ovens, preparing bakery platters, and icing names or messages on cakes. You will ensure display presentation and stock levels are maintained through efficient and organized facing and stocking.
Further duties include handling merchandise to ensure quality and minimize damages and markdowns, providing substitutions, and ensuring price integrity, including price changes. You will perform general clean-up duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to maintain a neat and organized department. Ensuring the sales floor and back stock area are clean of cardboard and debris, including garbage disposal, is also essential. All tasks must follow established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers. You will ensure the proper care, use, and maintenance of equipment and tools, reporting repair requirements to the Bakery Supervisor, Manager, or Duty Manager. This position is also responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies, and receiving, including reviewing and verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims, and proper storage of products. Additionally, you will assist in organizing and conducting inventory.
What You'll Bring
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess a Grade 9 education or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Previous bakery retail or related retail experience is essential. Fluency in English and strong bakery product knowledge or experience will set you apart from other applicants.
