About the Opportunity
The University of British Columbia (UBC) Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Vancouver, British Columbia. This academically intensive department within the UBC Faculty of Medicine is devoted to improving patient care, treatment, and well-being through teaching, research, and academic service, often within a clinical practice setting. The department is recognised for its quality graduate programme and plays a significant role in medical education and residency training.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will report to the Head of the Department and establish a robust research programme within the Molecular and Advanced Pathology Core, collaborating with the Gynecologic Cancer Initiative. A primary focus will be developing and leading the analysis of high-dimensional datasets derived from clinically annotated gynecologic cancers, including spatial transcriptomics. This role also involves active participation in the department's teaching activities, providing mentorship and training to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners. Additionally, the incumbent will contribute service to the University and the broader academic and professional community, working collaboratively on strategic initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Candidates must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree and an MD/PhD. Required qualifications include full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia as a clinical gynecological pathologist, or eligibility to obtain such licensure at the time of appointment. The successful applicant will be a fully qualified and licenced pathologist with subspecialty training and expertise in gynecologic pathology. Proven research potential, strong computational biology skills, and demonstrated ability to secure grants and lead projects are essential. A concurrent position as a clinical gynecologic pathologist is also required. A PhD in gynecologic cancer research and computational biology is preferred. Demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching and scholarly activity is expected, along with a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, and inclusion.
