About the Role
The Assessment Coordinator supports the development, implementation, grading, analysis, and reporting of student assessments within the distributed Undergraduate Medical Program (UGME) at the UBC Faculty of Medicine. This role involves liaising with course faculty and program staff across all sites to ensure precise processing and timely reporting of results. The incumbent will also assist in implementing new assessment methods and tools, participate in assessment-related projects, and maintain secure assessment databases. This position is integral to the Provincial Learner Assessment Team (PLAT) and plays a key part in the Faculty's vision to transform health for everyone.
Key Responsibilities
The Assessment Coordinator assists faculty with selecting and developing high-quality assessment materials and planning formative assessments. This includes blueprinting and matching assessment tools to curricular learning objectives and competencies, as well as creating accurate examination materials. Responsibilities also involve scoring written exams and OSCEs, performing item analysis, compiling student performance reports, and guiding faculty in scoring decisions through standard-setting meetings. The role tracks and reports on Workplace Based Assessments, prepares statistical reports for the Student Promotions Committee, and generates individual score reports for students. Furthermore, the coordinator participates in all assessment areas, co-manages the examination item bank, oversees remedial and supplemental exams, and participates in continuous improvement initiatives and curriculum development committees. Other duties include serving as an examination invigilator and completing various assessment-related projects.

Candidates should possess a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Essential qualities include a willingness to respect diverse perspectives, a commitment to enhancing awareness of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and the ability to work independently with minimal direction. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are crucial for composing and presenting correspondence, reports, and presentations using clear, concise business English. Excellent organisational and planning skills are required to maintain high precision under pressure, follow timelines, and meet targets. The ability to anticipate problems, plan ahead, and demonstrate initiative in a fast-paced team environment is also vital. Preferred qualifications include experience with survey design, analysis, and delivery of results, as well as experience in item and examination development, educational testing, and measurement. Familiarity with statistical analysis packages like SPSS or R and database concepts is an asset, along with the ability to learn new software and assessment-related programs, and intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).
