About the Opportunity
The University of Alberta, in partnership with Alberta Precision Laboratories, North Sector and the Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta, invites applications for a full-time Academic Hematopathologist at the Assistant Professor level. This hybrid role combines remote and in-person work at the North Campus Edmonton, focusing on expertise in hematopathology, lymphoma pathology, and cellular therapy.
Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is recognised as one of Canada’s premier health education institutions and among the world’s top 50 medical schools. The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology, within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is a high-impact research and education-focused department with strong interdisciplinary linkages. This role contributes to advancing translational research in precision medicine and cellular therapy, aligning with the department’s strategic aims.
Key Responsibilities
Key accountabilities include providing clinical service in hematopathology and lymphoma pathology, alongside leadership and participation in clinical training activities for the hematopathology residency subspecialty. The successful candidate will engage in educational scholarship and student supervision or teaching in lymphoma and molecular biology research.
This position also involves establishing a high-impact translational research program and providing medical oversight and expansion of the GMP-certified APL cellular therapy lab in Edmonton. Contributions to departmental educational programmes and participation in events such as DRIvE Days and rounds are also expected.
Qualifications
Candidates must be physicians (MD) certified in hematopathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC – Hematopathology) and eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
The ideal candidate will possess advanced training (fellowship) in an area relevant to lymphoproliferative disorders, coupled with experience in clinical trials and/or health research methods. A doctoral degree (PhD) in a related field would be considered an asset.
