AI Summary

The Wealth and Estate Planner (WEP) at Scotiabank's Scotia Wealth Management in Halifax, Nova Scotia, delivers high-level estate planning consultations to high net worth clients. This role involves partnering with advisors to identify wealth opportunities and provide strategic planning. Key requirements include extensive estate planning experience, ideally as a Lawyer, and deep knowledge of wealth and estate planning strategies for discerning clients. The WEP plays a crucial part in deepening client relationships and supporting overall wealth management objectives for Scotiabank.

About the Role: Wealth and Estate Planning Expertise

As a Wealth and Estate Planner within Scotia Wealth Management, you will be a pivotal member of a purpose-driven team committed to delivering a premium wealth management experience for Scotiabank's clients. This role leverages an innovative, team-based approach to deepen and strengthen client relationships by offering a focused consultation service. You will review clients' current situations, concentrating on their Wills, Powers of Attorney, and other critical estate planning considerations, including insurance coverage and their broader financial plan. The primary objective of each engagement is to showcase the extensive expertise available at Scotia Wealth Management, identify any high-level estate planning gaps, and uncover opportunities to further deepen the client relationship, ultimately helping clients achieve their financial goals through comprehensive wealth management strategies. Your work will involve partnering closely with Scotia Wealth Management advisors to meet with their high net worth clients and prospects, creating a positive experience for all involved by providing valuable insights and recommendations.

Client Engagement and Business Development

A key accountability for the Wealth and Estate Planner involves delivering a high-level estate planning consultation, which typically includes a 1-2 hour Discovery meeting with the client and advisor to clarify their current situation and demonstrate your depth of expertise. Following this, you will produce a written report for both the client and the advisor, highlighting appropriate, needs-based estate planning strategies and solutions, as well as other identified wealth opportunities, such as the need for insurance. This role is instrumental in recognizing opportunities for partners and clients to benefit from Scotiabank's Total Wealth solutions, encompassing financial planning, business succession, investments, private banking, and insurance. Furthermore, you will actively support Wealth Management Business Development by promoting will and estate planning products and services to prospective clients. When opportunities for Trust services are identified, you will refer the client to the local Estate & Trust Consultant (ETC). The WEP also participates in Round Table meetings to assist in triaging potential clients, providing consultations or recommending direct engagement with an ETC as appropriate. You will also assist ETCs and other team experts, like Total Wealth Planners and Insurance Consultants, in assessing new opportunities and delivering client and advisor education seminars to improve awareness around estate planning strategies, driving new business and increasing referrals from advisors. This comprehensive approach ensures that clients receive holistic and integrated wealth management advice.

Skills and Professional Competencies

To excel in this Wealth and Estate Planner position, a strong background in estate planning is a prerequisite, with a distinct preference for candidates who are Lawyers. You must possess in-depth experience dealing with high net worth clients and their advisors, demonstrating an ability to navigate complex financial landscapes and build trusted relationships. Furthermore, the role demands in-depth knowledge and technical proficiency related to a broad spectrum of wealth and estate planning strategies, including insurance, tax law, family law, charity law, and business succession planning. You will play a key risk management role, being responsible and accountable for always acting in the best interest of clients, ensuring that all actions and behaviours drive a positive client experience while operating strictly within Scotiabank's established policies and guidelines. Contributing to the effective functioning of the regional team of specialists is also vital, involving active participation in learning and development, building effective working relationships across various business lines, and facilitating a culture of open communication to enhance the coordinated delivery of Total Wealth planning, advice, and solutions for all clients.
