About this opportunity

Scotiabank is seeking a dedicated Virtual Business Advisor to contribute to the success of its Business Banking, Virtual Advice team. This role is pivotal in executing individual goals and initiatives that support the team’s business strategies and objectives, all while ensuring compliance with governing regulations and internal policies. This is a fully onsite position, requiring 5 days in the office.

As a Virtual Business Advisor, you will be responsible for the profitable growth, retention, and effective relationship management of your assigned customer portfolio. You will serve as the primary business advisor for approximately 5-8 branches across Canada, independently focusing on deepening and expanding existing assigned customer relationships. This includes remotely assessing customer needs, making appropriate recommendations, processing product applications, and providing ongoing service to these accounts to meet assigned targets for growth, retention, and operational effectiveness.

Day-to-day

In this dynamic role, you will champion a customer-focused culture, leveraging broader Bank relationships and your deep knowledge to manage and grow assigned business customer portfolios. Your daily activities will involve a blend of strategic relationship management, credit portfolio oversight, and exceptional service delivery to Scotiabank's business clients.

  • Remotely manage, grow, and retain assigned business customer portfolios at multiple branches to achieve goals while meeting the Bank’s Service Standards.
  • Develop and maintain deep knowledge and understanding of assigned customers, including their business nature, financial position, and terms of financial services.
  • Proactively identify customer needs and secure advice-based meetings to recommend tailored solutions via phone and email.
  • Effectively prioritize customer needs and demands with urgency, managing multiple agendas across assigned branches.
  • Influence key stakeholders to foster growth within existing business customer relationships.
  • Take proactive steps to recover customer relationships when required.
  • Work in close partnership with Branch Managers at assigned branches to provide high-level service and jointly manage business banking customers, including supporting new customer acquisition.
  • Remotely manage an assigned credit portfolio at an acceptable level of risk.
  • Authorize, renew, or decline customer requests within Bank policies and authorized limits, forwarding others as per established processes.
  • Prepare and/or ensure all customer documentation, such as loan applications, is properly completed.
  • Ensure accounts adhere to the conditions of authorization and identify deteriorating trends to reduce risk and loss.
  • Provide a high level of advice and service to Business Banking customers, assisting branches in implementing accepted products and services.
  • Partner with assigned Branch Managers and branch colleagues for after-sale support, maintenance, and problem resolution for existing customers.
  • Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of documentation, processes, and policy for Business Banking products and services.
  • Respond to existing customer inquiries within established service standards.
  • Collaborate regularly with Branch Managers and internal partners to identify customer trends, behaviour, and growth opportunities.
  • Contribute to overall financial and non-financial objectives by understanding and meeting designated Business Banking goals.
  • Conduct regular prospecting activities with existing assigned branch customers and external prospects to achieve sales and service objectives.
  • Manage and minimize the Bank’s exposure to risk by understanding Scotiabank’s risk appetite and actively pursuing efficient operations in accordance with values and conduct principles.
  • Champion a high-performance and inclusive work environment, ensuring strict adherence to security procedures and escalating unusual occurrences.

Skills and experience

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable software and technology platforms for Business Banking (e.g., SalesBuilder, Salesforce, Intralink, Microsoft Outlook, eSignature, Business Advisor Dashboard).
  • Thorough knowledge of features and benefits of Business Banking products and services and the Business Banking customer experience model.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable risk management policies and processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal and security documentation for Business Banking products.
  • Working knowledge of features and benefits of retail products and services.
  • Working knowledge of other business line/partner offerings (e.g., Commercial Banking, Global Transaction Banking, Wealth Management, Investment Specialists).
  • Working knowledge of competitor offerings and alternate sources of financing.
