Role Overview

The City of Vancouver is seeking Utility Maintenance Worker I (Pools) to join the auxiliary team within the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the upkeep of diverse facilities and spaces across Vancouver, including significant recreation venues. Successful candidates will play a key part in ensuring exceptional public service and an outstanding quality of life for all residents by maintaining essential community infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

The Utility Maintenance Worker I (UMW I) is responsible for a range of functions critical to the operation and service of the City's pools and community/recreation facilities. These include:

• Maintaining building standards and monitoring building security and safety.
• Operating and servicing swimming pools, pool chemical controllers, pumps, filtration, and related equipment.
• Performing routine to skilled maintenance, repair, and cleaning of pools and community/recreation facilities.

Qualifications and Abilities

To be considered for this Utility Maintenance Worker I position, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• Completion of a recognized certification program in Building Service Work and some related experience.
• Pool Operator Level I and II certifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of water filtration equipment and disinfection systems.
• Working knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment used in janitorial and building maintenance work.
• Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the general public and facility users to ensure observance of rules and regulations.
• Ability to observe equipment in operation and report on any malfunctions.
• Ability to operate ice resurfacing and water filtration equipment and any other tools or equipment associated with the work.
• Good health and strength sufficient to perform a variety of manual tasks in janitorial and building maintenance work.
• Above average manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude.
