The University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking a Team Lead, AV Projects, to provide leadership in the planning and delivery of audiovisual projects within the Faculty of Medicine. This role supports the faculty's provincially distributed education programs by coordinating and overseeing AV room refreshes, renewals, installations, and technology upgrades across various university, health authority, hospital, and distributed learning sites throughout British Columbia. This position is integral to the Faculty of Medicine's Digital Solutions department, specifically within the Collaboration team, which delivers synchronous and asynchronous technology solutions to meet its mandate.
The compensation range for this ongoing position is $8,305.08 to $12,952.33 CAD Monthly. UBC is committed to fostering a diverse workforce, believing that attracting and sustaining a diverse team is crucial for excellence in research, innovation, and learning for all faculty, staff, and students. Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, bringing rich diversity to UBC as a workplace and creating the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.
Key Responsibilities
As the Team Lead, AV Projects, you will lead the planning and delivery of the Faculty of Medicine’s audiovisual and technology capital refresh and renewal portfolio, which is approximately $3M annually. This includes overseeing AV room refreshes, renewals, installations, and technology upgrades across approximately 250 videoconferencing-enabled rooms and distributed learning spaces throughout the province. You will be responsible for determining technical requirements and implementation approaches for AV project work, considering various factors such as teaching needs, room constraints, infrastructure dependencies, and long-term service reliability.
A key aspect of this role involves building and sustaining strong partnerships with academic and health authority partners to ensure that local and program educational needs are successfully integrated and delivered. You will work closely with UBC IT, UBC AV, external vendors, and internal teams to meet project requirements, timelines, and quality standards, while also developing necessary skill sets, training programs, processes, and best practices. Your duties will also include developing technical specifications, reviewing vendor proposals, assessing solution fit, and making recommendations on equipment and vendor selection based on technical risk, cost, timelines, and institutional standards.
You will provide regular reporting on ongoing projects, monitoring progress against milestones, schedules, and budgets, and ensuring all project close-out procedures are completed in accordance with Faculty of Medicine standards. This role requires maintaining a high-level operational overview of concurrent initiatives, proactively identifying and addressing risks, and coordinating large-volume procurement of audiovisual and technology equipment. Furthermore, you will ensure completed projects are effectively transitioned to AV Operations through comprehensive documentation, training, and operational readiness reviews.
Beyond project leadership, you will manage and mentor staff in their day-to-day performance, fostering a collaborative and motivated team atmosphere. This includes participating in resource planning, coordinating work distribution, providing input into staff performance assessments, and offering career planning advice. You will also develop and implement procedures, methods, standards, and controls to enhance operational efficiency and mitigate risks. Your expertise will be applied to the more complex elements of the work, and you may lead or participate in vendor contract negotiations and serve as a Project Manager for specific initiatives, while continually maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools.
