The Digital Emergency Medicine research program, led by Dr. Kendall Ho, conducts research on the use of digital technologies to improve healthcare delivery and raising digital health literacy. The program carries out research, community engagement, and educational activities to explore how modern information and communication technologies can improve health care.
The Research Assistant will assist in planning research project activities, including organising and documenting meetings, and communicating with diverse project partners. They will conduct literature searches, as well as review and assist with the synthesis of literature. Responsibilities also involve assisting with data collection by co-facilitating focus groups, conducting interviews, and administering surveys. The incumbent will assist in data preparation, collection, entry, and analysis, and support the preparation of reports, publications, and presentations.
A significant part of the role involves assisting in the development of funding proposals by investigating applicable funding opportunities, searching and compiling submission criteria, completing funding application forms and documents, drafting components of letters of intent, and drafting full proposals. Other duties may be performed as required.
Candidates should possess a high school graduation, some additional training in a related field, and a minimum of two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own, is essential, along with a demonstrated commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred qualifications include an undergraduate degree in an area of social science, health science, communication, or public health with research experience. Knowledge and understanding of basic social science research methods are preferred. Experiences with BC health professional organisations, Indigenous health, community development, cross-cultural projects, and liaising and engaging with external organisations are considered assets. Preference will be given to candidates with some grant writing experience and experience working in a not-for-profit environment.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include the effective use of computer software such as MS Office and data analysis software, alongside familiarity with online literature search tools. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively independently and in a team environment, show initiative and sound judgement, and prioritise and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Strong verbal and written communication skills are also essential.
