The Opportunity

The University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the Fall 2026 term. This unique opportunity involves teaching the LMP330H1 course, "Genetic & Computational Modeling in Human Development & Disease," to a limited enrolment of students in the Pathobiology specialist program. This course introduces students to the use and impact of genetic model systems and organisms in exploring human reproduction, development, aging, and disease. It also highlights ethical issues related to animal research, genetic manipulation, and disease modeling, alongside bioinformatics concepts and methods for biological data analysis.

This sessional instruction role is an excellent chance to contribute to advanced undergraduate education at a leading Canadian university, working with engaged students and within the framework of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.

What You'll Bring

We are looking for a dedicated individual with a strong academic background and practical skills in computational and genetic modelling.

  • PhD student in computer science or in a health science discipline with a strong background in machine learning and its application in biomedical research.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python are required.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Extensive research experience with applying machine learning in biomedical research.

Key Duties

As a Sessional Lecturer, you will be responsible for delivering engaging instruction and assessing student progress. Your duties will include:

  • Teaching three weekly two-hour classes on topics introducing computational methods and machine learning to undergraduate students.
  • Creating examination assignments and examination questions covering the material presented to students.
  • Reviewing a debate among students.

All duties for this position shall be performed at the St. George campus.

Who You'll Work With

You will primarily work with approximately 30 undergraduate students enrolled in the Pathobiology specialist program. The course is supported by an estimated 70 hours of TA assistance. This position operates under the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement, which outlines the terms and conditions of employment, including salary rates. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement. Please note that undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
