About the Opportunity
As a Senior Financial Analyst, Corporate Development in Toronto, you will be at the centre of strategic growth, partnering with a highly acquisitive team and collaborating cross-functionally with Finance, Investor Relations, Capital Management, and Legal departments. You will drive real impact by supporting Definity’s inorganic growth strategy across carriers, brokers, and new vertical markets. This role offers end-to-end deal exposure, allowing you to contribute across the transaction lifecycle, including deal sourcing, due diligence, financial modelling, investment materials, and integration support. You will also provide market insights by tracking industry trends and maintaining benchmarking tools to support executive decision-making, and deliver strategic analysis through credit analysis, KPI reporting, and ad hoc requests from senior leadership. You will join a market leader, as Definity completed over 10 acquisitions last year, including one of the largest P&C transactions in the industry.
Your responsibilities will include evaluating potential acquisition targets and strategic initiatives for fit, risk, and value creation. You will build and maintain complex financial models, including valuation, synergy analysis, and accretion/dilution, and support the execution of acquisitions, financings, and divestitures across structuring, diligence, documentation, and integration. Monitoring Canadian P&C industry trends, developing and maintaining benchmarking databases and presentations, and performing credit analysis and covenant monitoring for broker investments are also key aspects of this role. You will also mentor junior team members by providing guidance and technical support, and support broader corporate initiatives and strategic projects as required.
What You'll Bring
Candidates should possess three to five years of experience in finance, accounting, or related fields, with a preference for experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity, or strategy. Experience in financial services, particularly insurance, is considered an asset. An undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, or a related field with strong academic performance is required. Progress towards or completion of a CPA, CFA, or CBV designation is also essential. You will bring advanced Excel and financial modelling skills with strong attention to detail, along with strong presentation and communication skills, and proficiency in PowerPoint. A solid understanding of financial accounting and the impact of business decisions on financial statements is expected. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels, including senior executives, are vital. Experience with S&P Capital IQ and/or MSA is an asset. Flexibility to accommodate the demands of a transaction-driven environment is also important for this role. Definity encourages applications from candidates who may not meet every listed requirement, as diverse backgrounds and perspectives are highly valued.
