The University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Medicine, Vancouver Campus, is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Cancer Exercise & Physiotherapy Lab (CEPL) led by Dr. Kristin Campbell. This position is integral to an established group of scientists and clinicians dedicated to advancing implementation and knowledge translation in exercise oncology programmes.
The CEPL develops, evaluates, and implements physiotherapy and exercise interventions to support people living with and beyond cancer. Our work focuses on managing treatment side effects and enhancing quality of life, while advocating for better integration of physiotherapy and exercise programmes into standard cancer care.
The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams on two major implementation projects. This includes supporting the co-development and evaluation of tailored referral strategies to increase the reach of the Breast Cancer Endocrine Fitness (BE-FIT) programme within BC Cancer and affiliated Community Oncology Network sites. You will also play a central role in advancing an implementation initiative to integrate the CHALLENGE structured exercise programme into routine clinical care for people with stage II–III colon cancer at BC Cancer Kelowna, including co-designing an implementation blueprint and evaluating its reach.
Responsibilities also include coordinating research activities, managing project timelines, and leading the co-design of clinician-facing and patient-facing intervention materials. You will collaborate with diverse stakeholders across UBC, BC Cancer, and other institutions, leading implementation and evaluation of programme referral and delivery across British Columbia, and contributing to national and international dissemination. This role involves collecting, managing, and analysing qualitative and quantitative data, contributing to literature reviews, preparing conference abstracts and manuscripts, supervising research assistants and trainees, and supporting future research proposals and funding opportunities. Maintaining accountability for the quality and integrity of research and data is paramount.
Applicants must possess a PhD in a relevant field such as exercise science/physiology, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, psychology, or implementation science. A strong foundation in exercise oncology, behaviour change, co-design, and/or knowledge mobilisation is considered a significant asset.
You will demonstrate the ability to manage all aspects of a project, from experimental design to data interpretation and manuscript assembly. Strong communication skills and the capacity to thrive in a team environment are essential. A willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including those that may conflict with your own, and a commitment to enhancing your awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion are also required.
The expected salary for this position is $60,000 per annum. The Faculty of Medicine is committed to offering equitable and competitive salaries, commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) Postdoctoral Fellow appointment for a two-year funded term, from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2028. There is a possibility of extension based on performance and successful additional funding.
