As a Pipeline Engineer, your accountability extends to initiating and delivering projects safely, accurately, cost-effectively, and on schedule, adhering to all applicable regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring that project scope, design, and documentation are complete, precise, and clearly communicated to all stakeholders and contractors involved in the pipeline construction. Managing procurement activities is another vital aspect, encompassing material and equipment availability, preparing Requests for Proposal (RFPs), contractor selection, and awarding contracts. You will also compile and distribute comprehensive construction packages and provide essential field support during pipeline and well site construction. Maintaining robust project management systems, tracking all pipeline activities, and monitoring safety, quality, schedule, cost, and regulatory compliance are continuous duties. Furthermore, you will develop cost estimates, prepare Authorization for Expenditures (AFEs), and meticulously track project costs, leveraging historical and approved financial data. A key objective is to promote innovation and identify cost-effective solutions to reduce construction, operating, and maintenance costs across the extensive pipeline infrastructure, optimizing efficiency in all operations.
The ideal candidate for this Pipeline Engineer position will typically bring five or more years of experience in pipeline construction and/or pipeline project coordination, supported by a relevant Engineering Technology diploma or Engineering degree. Demonstrated experience in and familiarity with field operations, combined with proven supervisory capabilities, are highly valued. A thorough understanding of provincial regulatory bodies, such as the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) D-56 and the British Columbia Energy Regulator (BCER) / Oil and Gas Commission (OGC), is crucial for ensuring compliance in our natural gas and oil projects. Familiarity with the broader oil and gas industry, particularly in construction and field operations, is essential. Knowledge of pipeline and well site construction practices, quality control, and pipeline inline inspection technology is also required. An understanding of CSA Z662 Oil and Gas pipeline systems and CSA Z245.1 Line Pipe (latest versions) is considered a significant asset. Proficiency with various support software like AccuMap, Abadata, Cambio, Navis Works, Quorum Execute, and Microsoft Windows will support your daily operations and project management tasks. This role is safety-sensitive, reinforcing the company's commitment to the integrity of its operations.
