The Opportunity

Metrolinx is dedicated to connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe, operating essential transit services like GO Transit and UP Express, alongside the PRESTO fare payment system. As an agency of the Government of Ontario, Metrolinx is also at the forefront of building new and improved rapid transit infrastructure, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and significant expansions to Toronto’s subway system, all aimed at enhancing how people travel.

The Rail Facility Assets Office at Metrolinx is actively seeking a skilled Millwright to join their team. In this vital role, you will ensure that GO Transit facilities, plant equipment, and critical systems are operated and maintained safely and effectively, directly contributing to the reliability of our transit network.

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking a dedicated professional with a strong background in industrial mechanics and facility maintenance. The ideal candidate will possess the necessary certifications and practical experience to manage complex equipment and systems within a dynamic rail environment.

  • Must have an Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience involving the operation and specialized maintenance of large facilities and of the associated equipment supporting Rail repair.
  • Experience in gas cutting, soldering, brazing, gas and arc welding, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to operate forklift, personnel lifts (scissor or telescopic), and/or other similar equipment.
  • Have a valid Ontario Class "G” Driver’s license and must meet corporate standard for a good driving record.
  • Ability to obtain GO Transit Equipment Operator’s Permit.
  • Have a working knowledge of pertinent environmental regulations, codes and health and safety regulations.
  • Successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid Certification.

Responsibilities

As a Millwright, you will be instrumental in the upkeep and functionality of Metrolinx's rail facilities. Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass a broad range of mechanical and operational tasks, ensuring all equipment and systems function optimally.

  • Operates, repairs and maintains equipment, systems, and structures.
  • Troubleshoots minor electrical issues.
  • Prepares records for the Supervisor relative inspections, work accomplished, etc.
  • Operates and maintains assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools safely.
  • Monitors the operation of on-site contractors.
  • Identifies parts, components and materials required for repairs.
  • Provides guidance to Plant Mechanics and Plant Serviceperson.
  • Carries out emergency measures.
  • Purchases parts, components, and materials relative to facility requirements.

You will be an integral part of the Rail Facility Assets Office, contributing to a team dedicated to maintaining the critical infrastructure that supports GO Transit operations. This role also involves providing guidance to Plant Mechanics and Plant Servicepersons, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable environment within the facility.
