As a Junior Actuarial Analyst, you will support the Reserving Team within Definity's Corporate Actuarial department, focusing on evaluating and monitoring the company’s loss reserves. This role involves analysing claims data, assisting with month-end booking and quarterly valuation reviews, and developing actuarial models to ensure appropriate reserve adequacy. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to financial reporting, and support process improvements. This position offers valuable exposure to actuarial methodologies, regulatory requirements, and business insights, while supporting your progress toward actuarial credentials.
You can expect to be involved in the monthly estimation and adequacy assessment of Definity’s Personal and Commercial portfolio reserves. You will also develop and apply your experience with spreadsheets, databases, and statistical software to prepare and analyse data for claim experience assessment and reserve adequacy analysis, presenting these findings to stakeholders. You will work closely with the Appointed Actuary and cooperate with internal Corporate Actuarial partners and external Finance, Reinsurance, Claims, and Business stakeholders. Strong communication skills are essential to convey actuarial concepts and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders verbally and in writing, with supporting documentation.
Candidates should possess a university degree in a quantitative field such as Actuarial Sciences, Mathematics, or Statistics. Completion of a minimum of two CAS/SOA exams is required. Prior knowledge and experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance is considered an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is essential, and knowledge of SQL or Python is also an asset.
