The Grocery Utility Clerk ensures excellent customer service by maintaining a safe and efficient operation, adhering to company policies, procedures, and standards. This position reports directly to the Grocery Supervisor or Grocery Manager.
Your Key Responsibilities
You will provide exceptional customer service and maintain positive customer relations by properly handling questions, comments, requests, and complaints. You will also work effectively in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner.
This role involves all aspects of Grocery Utility functions, including stocking shelves, building appealing displays, and facing products in an efficient and organized manner. You will ensure display presentation and stock levels are consistently maintained across all areas, including dairy, freezer, grocery, and warehouse sections.
You will handle merchandise carefully to ensure quality, minimize damages, and reduce markdowns. Responsibilities also include providing substitutions and ensuring price integrity, including processing price changes.
General cleanup duties are essential, such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to maintain a neat and organized department. You are responsible for keeping the sales floor and back stock area free from cardboard and debris, as well as disposing of garbage. All duties must follow established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.
You will ensure the proper care, use, and maintenance of equipment and tools, reporting any repair requirements to the Grocery Supervisor, Manager, or Duty Manager. This role is also responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies, as well as receiving, which includes reviewing and verifying invoices, handling returns, transfers, claims, and ensuring proper storage of products.
You will assist in organizing and conducting inventory. Additionally, you may assume other related responsibilities, including assisting in other departments as required and training new team members in the Grocery Utility Clerk role.
What You'll Bring
To be considered for this role, you should have a Grade 9 education or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Related retail experience, including a background in providing excellent customer service, is essential.
Fluency in English is required. Experience with receiving and a strong product knowledge will set you apart. Familiarity with ordering merchandise and supplies, along with related procedures, is also highly valued.
