Canadian Natural Resources, a leader in Canada's energy industry, is seeking an energetic Firefighter/Paramedic to join their team in Fort McMurray, Alberta. As a vital member of the Canadian Natural Fire Department, you will contribute significantly to the safe and efficient operation of their oil sands site. The role involves not only direct emergency response but also community education and continuous training, fostering a culture of safety and preparedness. The shift schedule for this safety-sensitive position is 7 days on, 7 days off, with rotating 12-hour days and nights. The successful Firefighter/Paramedic will be responsible for delivering high-quality BLS/ALS medical response in strict accordance with established protocols. A critical aspect of this position is ensuring effective emergency response by applying professional skills, sound judgment, and appropriate techniques at every emergency scene. This includes assisting with the inspection, maintenance, and general readiness of fire apparatus and all related emergency response equipment. Furthermore, the role involves conducting fire code inspections of site facilities and actively participating in site pre-fire planning activities to enhance overall safety. Strong leadership is expected, with a contribution to the training and development of other emergency response members. Candidates must bring prior experience as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) or Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), maintaining good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics with active registration. Essential certifications include NFPA 1001 Level II Firefighter Certification (Pro-board or IFSAC accreditation) and NFPA 472 Hazmat Awareness & Operations (Pro-board or IFSAC accreditation). Preference will be given to those with demonstrated firefighter experience. A valid Class 2/3 and 4 with Air brakes (Q) endorsement driver’s license, or a provincial equivalent, is also required. The physical demands of this role are significant, requiring the ability to perform essential duties of firefighting and emergency medical response, including lifting, carrying, operating heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and working in confined or hazardous environments while wearing personal protective equipment.
