Director, Securities Post Trade Technology at Scotiabank

Join Scotiabank's Capital Markets Technology team as a Director, Securities Post Trade Technology in Toronto, ON. This pivotal leadership role involves overseeing global Securities Settlements and Clearing Technology, ensuring that all business strategies, targets, and initiatives are executed in full compliance with governing regulations and internal policies. Key Responsibilities and Project Leadership

As Director, Securities Post Trade Technology, your leadership will be critical in managing complex technology programs and fostering a customer-focused environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and drive a customer-focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Ensure round-the-clock production support for Operations applications, managed globally.
  • Manage medium to large projects with IT spend between $2MM and $15MM.
  • Apply modern technology to new operational requirements.
  • Implement new practices and frameworks such as Agile, Lean, Design thinking, and DevOps.
  • Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment.
  • Communicate the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite throughout their teams.
  • Communicate vision/values/business strategy and manage succession and development planning for the team.
  • Ensure the timely development and implementation of multiple applications and IT solutions – involving multiple systems, multiple dependencies, and multiple stakeholders/business partners – where solutions cross business lines and customer segments, globally.
  • Plan and direct application/technology projects and ongoing support, and lead their teams of Project Managers, Developers, and Business Analysts.
  • Interpret and implement a continuous improvement process and mindset for production issues to ensure effective and timely resolution of problems and knowledge transfer.
  • Manage policy development to address ongoing complex business issues.
  • Deliver and manage highly complex technology programs which consist of multiple IT projects for multiple business partners and stakeholders, across multiple business units and lines of business.
  • Oversee all development projects within the department, managing multiple small and large projects concurrently.
  • Ensure high availability, integrity, and reliability of programs and processes developed, where the consequence of error could expose the Bank to a significant loss or undue risk.
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business requirements into actionable strategies and identify appropriate solutions, ensuring adherence to GWRT’s strategic architectural direction and Bank Standards.

Required Skills and Professional Experience

To excel in this Director role, candidates should bring a robust background in technology and Capital Markets, demonstrating proven experience in complex financial environments. Key qualifications include:

  • 15+ years of technical experience including Java, MQ, Oracle, REST, Microservices, Spring boot, Cloud, K8 etc.
  • 10+ years of Capital Markets Experience.
  • 5+ years of Settlements, Clearing and Backoffice Operations Technology.
  • Working knowledge of clearing houses/depositories preferred (DTCC/CDS/etc.).
  • Broadridge experience preferred.
