We interpret computing systems broadly and welcome applications from candidates working in areas including, but not limited to: computer architecture; digital and integrated systems; embedded and cyber-physical systems; hardware/software co-design; operating and runtime systems; compilers; distributed, cloud, and edge systems; networking; data-intensive systems and storage; and hardware and systems security. We particularly welcome candidates whose work crosses traditional boundaries within computer engineering or connects computing systems with emerging application domains.

  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Contribute service to the department, university, and the profession.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following qualifications to be considered for this education opportunity:

  • A record of research excellence, or clear potential to establish an internationally recognized research program, as demonstrated by publications in leading computing systems venues.
  • Evidence of strong teaching ability, or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as demonstrated ability or potential to provide effective supervision of graduate students.
  • Evidence of service to the academic and professional community, or demonstrated potential to engage in academic and professional service.
  • Hold, or be eligible to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Limited Licence with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) within five years of appointment.
  • Individuals are required to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Benefits

This position is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package provided by UBC. Additionally, the department invests in its new faculty by offering the following support:

  • A start-up package and dedicated laboratory space for incoming assistant professors.
  • Pairing with senior faculty mentors and support in recruiting first graduate students and preparing early grant applications.
