The Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN), an integral part of Ontario Health, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced full-time Clinical Services Coordinator in Toronto, Ontario. TGLN is dedicated to coordinating organ and tissue donation and transplantation across Ontario, with a mandate to enhance public awareness, provide education to healthcare professionals, and ensure a secure and effective donation and transplant system within the province.
As a Clinical Services Coordinator, you will provide professional services consistent with TGLN's mission and values, passionately committed to organ and tissue donation. This role is crucial in enabling individuals or their legal surrogates to make informed donation decisions, ensuring the donation process is a meaningful and positive experience for loved ones and hospital staff, and contributing to optimal outcomes for transplant patients. This unique opportunity allows you to merge best practice with clinical expertise, offering significant autonomy and extensive networking with diverse clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
Ontario Health is committed to your success, providing an extensive orientation and training programme, along with ongoing team support. We also offer opportunities for broader, long-term career growth within our organisation. The primary worksite for this position is located at 483 Bay Street, and the schedule involves a combination of weekday and weekend 12-hour shifts.
This permanent full-time position offers a competitive hourly rate ranging from $36.05 to $51.60. Please note that all applicants must be residents of Ontario to be considered for roles at Ontario Health.
Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Services Coordinator is responsible for comprehensive case management of the donation process, from initial referral through to organ recovery. This involves close collaboration with donor hospitals, various healthcare teams, transplant programmes, tissue banks, and air and land transportation carriers, as well as laboratory services and other TGLN staff members. A key duty includes coordinating organ placement and all necessary testing to facilitate successful donation.
A significant aspect of this role involves making critical decisions while ensuring strict adherence to Health Canada regulations. You will be instrumental in facilitating the logistics of organ recovery, which includes arranging transportation for multiple recovery teams, such as surgeons and both land and air transport personnel. Responding to calls from referring hospitals, you will conduct preliminary assessments of patient histories and identify all relevant donation options.
You will collaborate effectively with the attending healthcare team to develop strategies for integrating TGLN services into the patient's and family's end-of-life care plan. Additionally, you will offer initial recommendations to the healthcare team regarding process management or the patient’s physiological status, as appropriate, until a Specialist, Organ and Tissue Donation becomes involved.
Accurate and comprehensive documentation is essential, requiring you to enter key information into TGLN’s electronic chart and custom database. You will serve as an expert resource for all aspects of organ and tissue donation, promoting and supporting best practices in the field. This role operates within a busy 24/7 call centre environment, working 12-hour rotating shifts, and includes performing other duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess either a Nursing Diploma or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, coupled with current Registered Nurse (RN) registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. While not mandatory, a minimum of one year of critical care nursing experience is preferred, as is prior experience in organ donation or transplant nursing. It is important to note that all day shifts, including both weekdays and weekends, require in-office work, though this is subject to change.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of applied pathophysiology, medical diagnostic testing and imaging, and the ability to accurately interpret laboratory results. The role demands the capacity to efficiently sort through large volumes of clinical information, comprehend and interpret this data, and then effectively re-communicate it to both internal and external stakeholders.
Essential skills for this position include proficiency in conflict management and the ability to influence others through the application of expertise and rational arguments. Experience in case management or coordination is highly valued, as is a proven track record of working effectively in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments.
The ability to problem-solve effectively in high-pressure, time-sensitive situations is crucial. Furthermore, excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are required, alongside strong computer proficiency to manage documentation and data entry.
