Key duties
As a Client Relationship Manager (CRM) in Commercial Agriculture Banking at Scotiabank, you will be a product generalist with a strong understanding of financial products and services. Your primary focus will be on the cross-sell and retention of existing commercial customers, alongside identifying new prospects in target markets and developing sales pipelines. This role is crucial for the overall success of the Canadian Agriculture Banking team within Commercial Banking, ensuring individual goals and initiatives support broader business strategies and objectives. You will also be responsible for effective relationship management, sales planning, service execution, and the analysis and completion of credit applications, all while ensuring compliance with governing regulations and internal policies.
- Champion a client-driven culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Promote the development and profitable growth of the Canadian Business Banking portfolio in the assigned market area by developing and implementing marketing strategies, creating sales plans for prospects and existing customers, identifying prospects/referrals, analysing prospect lists, partnering with internal resources for non-credit products, and referring customers to appropriate segments.
- Pursue a business development program within the assigned market area by direct selling of credit and non-credit commercial products, maintaining an ongoing sales pipeline and calling program, identifying and facilitating the involvement of key Bank resources, maintaining effective follow-up, and accurately updating client information.
- Build and maintain a market profile through planning and completing relationship activities, staying aware of local market and economic conditions, meeting with business leaders, participating in professional and community events, and liaising with Bank product specialists.
- Ensure all aspects of assigned relationships receive ongoing attention to maintain, improve, grow, and retain the relationship.
- Manage an assigned credit portfolio for authorizations up to $25MM at an acceptable level of risk by completing timely credit reviews, authorizing/renewing/declining customer requests within Bank policies, preparing documentation, ensuring account adherence, identifying and resolving deviations, ensuring early identification of problem loans, and making recommendations to Global Risk Management.
- Ensure satisfactory onboarding of clients by conducting thorough diligence to understand the client’s business and ensure alignment with the Bank’s risk tolerance.
- Champion sustainment of the Operating Model by taking ownership that activities and behaviours align to roles and responsibilities and adhere to guidelines and processes within the team.
- Champion and support a culture of diversity and other initiatives aligned with the Bank strategy.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursue effective and efficient operations, ensuring adequacy and adherence to day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk.
- Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
