Join a purpose-driven winning team committed to results within an inclusive and high-performing culture at Scotiabank. As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that individual goals, plans, and initiatives are effectively executed and delivered, directly supporting the team’s business strategies and objectives. A core responsibility involves building, maintaining, and optimizing Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment pipelines to streamline software delivery. You will be instrumental in automating build, test, and deployment workflows, leveraging tools such as Terraform and Ansible to provision and manage infrastructure, always ensuring version-controlled and repeatable deployments. This role also encompasses managing various cloud environments, including both on-premise solutions and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with a focus on ensuring scalability, cost efficiency, and resilience. Furthermore, you will implement and manage container platforms like Kubernetes, GKE, and RKE2, facilitating efficient container-based workflows. The successful candidate will also implement robust observability stacks using technologies such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, and Loki, while optimizing system performance and driving SRE-aligned practices, including the definition and monitoring of SLIs/SLOs. A significant aspect of the role is reducing manual work through extensive automation across build, deployment, infrastructure, configuration, and validation workflows. This position requires evaluating and integrating new DevOps tools to continuously improve developer productivity and operational excellence. It is also vital to ensure strict compliance with organizational governance, audit requirements, and cloud security posture, partnering closely with development, architecture, cloud, and security teams to achieve these objectives. The role also involves supporting developers by enhancing their build/deploy workflows, templates, and tooling, participating in root-cause analysis, and implementing preventive measures to improve system reliability through automation, redundancy, and performance tuning. This position champions a client-driven culture, deepening client relationships and leveraging broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
To succeed in this challenging DevOps Engineer role, candidates should possess at least 5 to 7 years of practical experience specifically within a DevOps capacity. Crucial hands-on experience is required with any of the major public cloud platforms, such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Microsoft Azure, demonstrating a deep understanding of cloud infrastructure management. Furthermore, extensive hands-on experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes is essential for managing modern application deployment workflows. The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills, capable of navigating complex technical challenges. This position requires an extensive understanding of project management principles and methodologies, alongside familiarity with Scotiabank’s IT Roadmap. While a Computer Science Diploma or Degree is beneficial, equivalent related work experience will also be considered. Beyond formal qualifications, candidates must possess sufficient technical proficiency to effectively perform the diverse activities outlined for this role, including managing sophisticated infrastructure and automating complex workflows. The ability to apply this experience to continuously improve operational processes and system reliability is key.
