About the Role
This in-person role is based across North Campus Edmonton, South Campus Edmonton, and Campus Saint-Jean. The position involves a wide range of duties, utilising heavy, light, and small equipment, as well as hand tools and manual labour. Responsibilities include the maintenance and construction of hard and soft landscaping, pond maintenance, furnishings, signs, snow removal, and irrigation installation and repair.
The role also encompasses pruning, special event set-ups and take-downs, and daily repairs and maintenance on equipment. A significant portion of the day is spent outdoors, requiring operators to be alert, cautious, and maintain clear visibility of hazards and safety concerns when working within large crowds and onsite traffic. Quick adaptability and responsiveness to last-minute requests or situations are essential for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
Operating and maintaining various heavy and light equipment.
Performing hard landscaping tasks such as pathway and patio maintenance.
Executing soft landscaping duties including planting and garden care.
Conducting pruning and plant removal as required.
Assisting with the set-up and take-down of special events.
Managing snow removal operations during winter months.
Installing and maintaining irrigation systems across campus.
What You'll Bring
Applicants must have a High School Diploma combined with two years of on-the-job experience in landscaping or horticulture. Good working knowledge and communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are required. A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and Skid Steer Certification are mandatory.
Completion of Defensive Driving Training and the University of Alberta Risk Management Driver's Evaluation is essential. Candidates should be computer literate and possess WHMIS along with all Facilities & Operations (F&O) required safety training. Courses in horticulture, irrigation, and pruning would be considered beneficial assets.
