Key duties

As an Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic, you will be responsible for providing essential care in often unpredictable areas, utilizing a range of emergency equipment. Your duties will encompass a broad spectrum of pre-hospital emergency care, requiring both clinical expertise and strong interpersonal skills. Key responsibilities include:

  • Working effectively in unpredictable environments, managing multiple types of technology and emergency equipment.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in verbal and non-verbal communication techniques.
  • Possessing effective communication skills and the ability to relate to all individuals.
  • Applying knowledge of current infection control standards, practices, and protocols.
  • Ensuring safe client movement practices.
  • Travelling within the service delivery area as required.
  • Performing duties that involve heavy lifting and often extreme physical exertion.
  • Thinking and acting quickly, creatively, and strategically in critical situations.
  • Collaborating with internal executive, cross-functional teams, and external parties.
  • Applying knowledge of proper body mechanics.
  • Being physically able to perform the demanding duties of pre-hospital emergency care.
  • Utilizing knowledge of Primary Health Care and Community Paramedicine principles.
  • Applying and using safety restraints and postural supports appropriately.

Skills and experience

To excel in this Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic role, candidates must possess a strong foundation in advanced medical knowledge and practical skills. The following education, licenses, and training are required:

  • Advanced Care Paramedic Diploma (ACP)
  • Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic/Advanced Care Paramedic (EMT-P/ACP) license
  • Valid Class 4 driver's license
  • International Trauma Life Support Certificate (ITLS)
  • Current Basic Life Support-Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS-CPR) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certificate (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certificate (PALS)
  • Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) certificate (acceptable)

A Community Paramedic endorsement is considered a valuable asset for this position. Candidates must also be physically able to perform the demanding duties associated with pre-hospital emergency care.
