Your Impact

As a Dental Health Educator Senior with the Saskatchewan Health Authority in Buffalo Narrows, you will play a crucial role in advancing community oral health. Reporting to the Primary Health Care Manager, you will specialize in stimulating, coordinating, and delivering essential prenatal and preschool oral health promotion activities. Your work will directly contribute to reducing disease and fostering better oral health outcomes for people across the community. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead and innovate within a vital public health program.

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate the delivery of an active prenatal/preschool preventive oral health education and promotion program within the dental professional’s scope of practice.
  • Supervise dental staff and provide management for the NW1 Dental Program.
  • Work collaboratively with the Population Health Unit Dental Health Educator to maintain an ongoing standard of care.

The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of oral health principles and their relationship to overall health and disease, along with the skills to address broader health-related issues. This role requires a commitment to working in cross-cultural settings and potentially isolated areas, ensuring equitable access to vital health education.

  • Graduate from a recognized Dental Therapy program.
  • Experience in health promotion/prevention strategies.
  • 3 years of experience as a dental health educator.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Registered/eligible for registration with the appropriate licensing body.

  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Knowledge of oral health principles and their relationship to health and disease.
  • Ability to address health-related issues or life skills, other than oral health.
  • Ability to work in isolated areas, as required.
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to develop and present oral health education/training to various groups.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in media communication and social marketing.
  • Skills such as team building, negotiation, conflict management, and group facilitation to build partnerships across professions, health authorities, jurisdictions, sectors, and with individuals, communities, and other agencies.
  • Ability to travel on remote roads or fly in small aircraft to remote communities.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge in Infection Prevention and Control standards.

Compensation and Perks

This full-time regular position offers a competitive salary within the Pay Band Health Educator - Senior range of $39.44 to $48.226 per hour. The role is unionized under HSAS, and preference will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement.
