Amazon Web Services (AWS) is rapidly expanding, and we are seeking a Data Centre Engineering Operations Manager to join our growing Infrastructure Operations team. AWS is a fast-paced technology company and a leader in the world of data centres. This is one of our most senior management roles within the data centre environment.
In this position, you will be responsible for leading an organisation, managing other managers and/or Facility Managers who oversee data centre facility infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of both data centre IT infrastructure and data centre facilities infrastructure, including how these two systems coexist. A contextual understanding of these elements will serve you well in this challenging role.
This position requires that the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team, including compute operations managers, engineering operations managers, logistics operations managers, and security operations managers. A core part of your role involves achieving organisational performance goals and objectives related to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency.
This includes planning and executing the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data centre build-outs, new co-location build-outs, and expansions, encompassing server hardware installation, troubleshooting, repair, and security system installation, troubleshooting, and repair. You will oversee the operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for Amazon data centres, including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and change management.
Your duties will also involve vendor management of co-location data centre service providers to meet or exceed contracted performance service level agreements. You will lead safety, security, and availability incident response, incident management, and incident resolution, alongside driving continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field. You should have at least five years of experience as a manager of managers, along with over ten years managing data centre operations, facility engineering, critical environments, or build-outs. Five or more years delivering complex projects with a proven track record is essential, as is five years owning mission-critical teams or products, including autonomous management of geographically distributed infrastructure teams. Fluency in both French and English is required for global and provincial Amazon interactions.
Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in Engineering and Business Administration or related fields. Five or more years using continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma is highly desirable, as is five years as a technical project manager or team member on data centre build-outs and startups. Experience of five years or more in IT infrastructure, including compute/storage servers, networking, and service delivery, is preferred. Additionally, four or more years in hardware/security installation, troubleshooting, and repair, along with data centre mechanical/electrical/controls operations (preventive/corrective maintenance, change management), are advantageous. Expertise in vendor management for co-location SLAs, incident response/resolution, process improvements, and hiring/developing high-performing teams, as well as being a subject matter expert in data centre systems, is valued. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, backed by five years of experience and data-driven examples of Amazon Leadership Principles, are also preferred.

The base salary range for this position in Airdrie, AB, is 130,300.00 to 187,700.00 CAD annually. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
